(Monticello, NY) From October 6-8, 2017 ABXY joined Monticello Motor Club in celebrating their second annual Art in Motion event. The gallery presented a selection of works by Vernon O’Meally, Malik Roberts, Corey Wash, Zeehan Wazed, and Melvin “Grave” Guzman, which focussed on concepts of motion for the racetrack’s member’s only event. That weekend, ABXY artist Vernon O’Meally was invited to live-paint a vintage Corvette. Having forgotten his paintbrushes, O’Meally began to search the private car club for something he could use to adorn the vehicle. As returned to the Corvette, armed with a brush used to clean car engines, the young artist bumped into MMC member and living legend, Frank Stella. Famous for using house paint and every day objects in his own practice, Stella’s curiosity was peaked at the chance encounter. He soon met O’Meally at the Corvette and joined him in the work, adding strokes to the young artist’s dynamic design. For post release on the event from Monticello Motor Club, please see below.

Star-Studded Automotive Weekend at Monticello Motor Club Draws Exclusive Crowd of Collectors, Enthusiasts, Racing Hall of Famers, & Celebrities

(Monticello, NY | October 16, 2017) The second annual Art In Motion Concours d‘Elegance of Speed and Power at Monticello Motor Club Oct. 6-Oct. 8 drew an exclusive crowd of notable collectors, restorers, racing legends, and enthusiasts to the Sullivan County Catskills.

Some of the most significant and prestigious sports and racing cars ever produced joined the concours field, including cars from Bruce Canepa, a legend in the worlds of both racing and collector cars, and Sergio de la Vega.

Even Horacio Pagani, the founder of the Italian specialty automaker Pagani Automobili S.p.A., made a surprise visit to tour the concours field.

All of the weekend’s concours entries were rated by Hall of Fame drivers Danny Sullivan, Tommy Kendall, and Brian Redman, Chasing Classic Cars host Wayne Carini, and other world-renowned restorers and marque experts including Chief Race Car Judge Mark Moskowitz and Chief Concours Judge Russell Glace.

Saturday included a rare racecar concours, where the field was composed entirely of rare and championship-winning vehicles. Many of those same cars displayed their very best at speed on MMC’s 4.1-mile private race track, which was co-designed by Redman.

The Best In Show: Race Concours honors were awarded to the 1973 Sunoco-branded Porsche 917/30-003, owned by Robert Kauffman. That is the same car Mark Donohue used to help capture his 1973 Can-Am championship. The Danny Sullivan award went to a 1979 BMW M1 in Motorsport livery, owned by the BHA Auto Museum.

Sunday was a day dedicated to the concours cars from multiple classes, including Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and USA, as well as Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari, and Supercars.  BMW was the featured marque.

The day’s Best In Show honors went to a 1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Cabriolet by Pininfarina, owned by South Florida-based collector Leo Schigiel. The car, one of the most expensive of its time, is a rare example of Alfa Romeo's post-War move away from brightwork.

One of the weekend’s highlights included an on-track reunion between American sports car legend Tommy Kendall and the 1990 Chevrolet Beretta Trans Am, owned and restored by Canepa. The Trans Am was the same car Kendall was driving when he won his first of four driver’s championships in the Sports Car Club of America's Trans-Am Series.

Even more than a concours, however, AIM offered family-friendly activities throughout the weekend, like the CXC Racing Simulator Experience, Polaris RZR Off-Road Experience, panel discussions, karting, and hot laps with pro drivers. Guests were also invited to visit, sample, and make purchases from over a dozen on-site sponsors.

There was also a star-studded awards ceremony, a Gaucho BBQ provided by award-winning Chef Luke Venner from Elm of New Canaan, spirits tastings, and a champagne toast. Gooding & Company conducted an exclusive auction, which featured a Corvette C6 and helmet painted on site by the artists of ABXY Gallery with the guidance of Frank Stella, an iconic figure of post-war American Art and a new member of MMC. The auction also included a Craig Booth sculpture of the 1947 #10 Schoof’s Racing IndyCar, which was displayed next to the real #10 IndyCar inside MMC’s Collector Car Gallery. Other auction items included jewelry and accessories, luxury travel packages, and a 2018 Polaris RZR XP Turbo DYNAMIX Edition.

Funds raised through the auction will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, and the Sullivan County SPCA.
